STUDY 2026 · STRATEGIC PROCUREMENT OPTIMIZATION
Procurement 2026 - Driving Business Success
This study analyzes more than 100 terms and conditions optimization projects conducted over twelve months across more than 20 spend categories. It shows which savings rates are realistic, why spend volume alone is a misleading guide, and how a category’s potential can be assessed even before a project starts.
The data basis in four figures:
- 100+ analyzed optimization projects
- 12-month survey period (08/2025 – 07/2026)
- 20+ analyzed spend categories
- 6% median savings rate across all spend categories
Robust Figures Instead of Flat Percentages
The study is based on more than 100 terms and conditions optimization projects with a combined addressable spend running into billions of euros. It reports only P&L-effective savings compared with the price level before each project started. Cost avoidance is deliberately excluded, so the results are calculated conservatively.
Contents
- Realized savings rates for more than 20 spend categories, with median, interquartile range and maximum
- The volume effect: why the savings rate decreases as spend increases
- An assessment grid with six characteristics for classifying any category
- Four factors that enable a robust, company-specific indication of potential, from the data basis to prioritization
For Decision-Makers in Procurement
The study is aimed at heads of procurement, chief procurement officers (CPOs) and procurement and supply chain managers who want to prioritize their category portfolio strategically. It provides a benchmark for assessing their own savings potential realistically and for selecting the right categories for the next optimization wave.
